Both of these images are groups of American women. Does one image fit the stereotype of "American" more than another? Does one image fit the stereotype of "woman" more than another?

Do you see any issues of poverty and privilege in these images? What about icongraphy?

How do you think each group of women would react to each other if they were (1) shown each other's pictures? or (2) in the same room?

Consider how we, as Americans, resist notions of race and gender that fail to account for us--how do we invent new notions or how do we resist conformity?

I think the stereotype of the "American" woman now is hard working and equal to a man. When i think of the "American" woman i think of the "We Can Do It" picture from the 1940's.
Although there are many working woman in America now there are still the groups from "outside" communities that are totally differnt. For example like the amish woman showed in the picture are not equal to the men. They have different jobs and are treated different. They don't really have the CHOICE of whom they can marry.
